History:
Autochthonous breed from the Bavarian Forest, the Bohemian Forest and northern Austria. Closely related to the Hungarian Csitka sheep.

Special characteristics:
Mixed hairy wool with a high share of fine wool, suitable for tweed. Fertile, with excellent meat quality, well-suited for lamb meat production in harsh middle mountain regions.

Phenotype description:
Small to medium-framed sheep, mostly white, other colours also desirable, straight head with a woolly forehead. The breed's small ears stand out horizontally; both sexes polled or horned, with a long, woolly tail.
