History:
The breed orginated in Carinthia, Slovenia and Northern Italy from local breeds, strengthened by Bergamasker and Padovan sheep. It used to be the dominant breed in these regions, but has been in a sharp decline since 1940. Over the last 10 years, however, there has been a marked increase in the population.

Special characteristics:
Good meat quality, perfect for direct marketing of lamb meat and traditional sausages. The breeding organisation's good public relations have made the breed an integral part of thje region's agro-tourism program.

highly endangered
Phenotype description:
Medium-framed, long-legged sheep, polled, with white wool. Characteristic for the breed is the black pigmentation around the eyes, on the ear tips and sometimes on the lower lip. Lop-eared with a Romas nose.
