History:
In the 18th century old local breeds were crossed with Murztal, Ennstal Pied and Blond cattle, resulting in a rapidly-growing cattle breed with good fattening and draught characteristics.

Special characteristics:
Well-suited to semi-extensive husbandry, excellent meat quality (tenderness, marbeling), ideal for high quality beef production with oxen. Demand is increasing due to brand-name meat marketing strategies.

Phenotype description:
Murboden cattle range from pale blond to foxy red in colour, and have a black muzzle with a lighter-coloured snip. The end of the tail and the hooves are dark. Bulls are often darker than cows, especially around the neck.
