The Original Pinzgau Cattle |

History:
The ancestors of the Pinzgau Cattle were introduced to the alpine valleys in Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia by the Celts around 800 BC. They were bred in this area very sucessfully for hundreds of years. They were crossed with Red Friesian in the second half of the last century and have been displaced by Austrian Simmental.

2010: 5113 ÖPUL-geförderte Zuchttiere.

Special characteristics:
Dual purpose breed kept for milk and beef, very hardy, good legs and hooves, excellent meat quality, well suited for extensive husbandry.

Phenotype description:
The Pinzgau Cattle is characterised by a dark, chestnut base colour with typical white markings on the back, the flanks and the belly as well as on the front legs and shanks. Hooves are dark, and the light-coloured horns have dark tips.
